Ronald McDonald House

Toronto

The new Ronald McDonald House Toronto creates a familiar, home-like setting for 81 families – often from small towns or rural communities – in Toronto for medical treatment. It includes familiar features like a communal kitchen, library, fitness studio, school, living rooms, play areas that serve many different people with a wide range of needs and/or physical limitations. In building Ronald McDonald House Toronto, there was a unique mandate to project manage the world’s largest, best-in-class, LEED “Platinum” designed facility that was funded by charitable funds.

The new 9,183 m², four-storey building accommodates 81 families, making it the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world. The program includes 66 single room family suites, 15 two-bedroom family suites, a house manager’s suite and communal facilities including living, dining and kitchen areas as well as administrative and support spaces. The house also includes a unique one-room school for children of different ages and abilities.

Andrew Thomson led this project with True North Group.
